Good way to check on the emerging VR environment
I picked this up on a whim because I've been reading all the articles about VR and Google Cardboard, and this one seemed to have the features I wanted like inter-pupil distance adjustment and focus. It turned out to be a solid piece that seems much more durable and comfortable than any of the ones actually made of cardboard could be. However, one big problem is the lack of the button that's part of the Cardboard reference design. That means I'll have to add a Bluetooth controller to use some of the apps, but other things like the simple apps and USA Today VR work fine as is. The apps that offer a QR code scan to optimize for the headset all readily recognize the KiX.
When I got this I had an iPhone 5 with a slim invisible case, which fit fine. I tried my wife's similarly configured iPhone 6, and that fit fine too. Before I upgraded to my new iPhone 6s Plus, I checked several sources that indicate that this large phone would fit. Well, I guess maybe it does, but not with any sort of case. It's a definite no-go with my minimal Speck Candyshell. I guess I'll have to use an older phone for now, because getting the tight-fitting Candyshell on and off the phone is too much work.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase. It's a low cost way to check into all the hype around VR these days, which my initial experience indicates is still in very early days. Just make sure your phone fits with any case you might have on it and think about how to add a controller.

Fun taste at VR
By Nicholas Bell
Fun taste at VR. I enjoyed playing games on this device. The only downside is that your experience is limited by the quality of your phone. If you have a low quality phone screen, This may not be enjoyable.

Nice goggles - great price - well made.
I have been searching for the best VR goggles and have tried several. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. This one is made well and a great deal for the price. It has the ability to focus similar to a pair of binoculars so it works for most people and with most VR apps. The head strap is wonderful. The padding around the face and nose is fantastic for wearing them a long time. On the negative side I have found that Google Cardboard and DoDo Cardboard cases give the viewer a more immersive viewing experience. The plastic headsets that I have tried seem to cause the image you are looking at to be surrounded by a border making the experience more like watching a movie and less like being immersed in virtual reality. I have a Galaxy Note 3 so it isn't a small screen size causing the issue. I do like these goggles. They are made well and the phone is secure inside so no one would fumble and drop the phone. I just wish there was a way to remove the border around the screen when looking through them.
